What Is A Lice Nit?

Nits are a head lice egg. They are laid be a female louse. The female louse lays 6-8 eggs a day over a period of about two and a half weeks. A lice eggs takes about 5-7 days to hatch then they become a nymph then fairly soon after they become full blown adults.  Nits are glued to a hair shaft and the size of a grain of sand. The minute that the female louse lays her eggs, the egg comes out with a coating that sets up very quickly into a tough glue that is resistant to any solvent, water, alcohol, or anything like that. They are on your hair to stay unless you mechanically or physically remove them.  Nits are very hard to kill and that’s one of the biggest problems of getting rid of head lice. Adults can sometimes be killed effectively by outside product but lice eggs have a protective shell that product cannot penetrate. Eggs can be removed manually but it takes time, patience, and accuracy and a high quality lice comb or you can go to a professional lice removal service like Torrance Lice Removal.
